Openreach Full Fibre

Openreach engineers are installing Full Fibre infrastructure at Malting Mead.

Once complete, an outside Openreach junction box will be located near each flat. Residents or owners will then need to arrange a connection from this box into their flat through their chosen provider. This will involve a separate visit from a Openreach engineer to drill a small hole through the exterior wall to feed a thin fibre cable from this box directly into your flat, connecting it to a new small white wall-mounted indoor Optical Network Terminal (ONT) box.

Importantly, the traditional analogue lines are retiring, with the national transition due to be completed by 31 January 2027. If you rely on a landline, you should contact your telephone provider before this date to discuss arrangements for your service. Your telephone handset will need to be digital-compatible and will connect directly to a router supplied by your provider, rather than to a wall socket. Traditional BT phone sockets will no longer be used to plug in standard landline phones or routers once the analogue telephone network (PSTN) is switched off.

Note: Virgin Media broadband is supplied to Malting Mead through the 30-year-old NTL/CableTel network, a Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial cable network to the property, which is not the same as the latest Full Fibre technology. Importantly, no other providers can use that old cable network, severely restricting completion and your choice of broadband or telephone provider, which Full Fibre will offer.
